چکیده
Introduction: Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is the frontline diagnostic tool in assessing Thyroid enlargement. FNAC simple, easy to perform, cost effective procedure with rapid diagnosis. Other tests like Ultrasound, radionucleotide scanning, profile are adjuvant which more reliable. Aim: To categorise spectrum of lesions on according Bethesda system for Reporting Cytopathology (TBSRTC) and study its utility pitfalls. Materials Methods: This was a retrospective observational carried out Department Pathology at Government Medical College/Government General Hospital, Mahabubnagar, Telangana, India, from January 2019 December 2021. The analysis data done 2022 June 2022. fine needling performed cases enlarged gland, smears were prepared fixed 95% ethyl alcohol, stained Hematoxylin Eosin Papanicolaou stain. Cytohistopathological concordance wherever possible. Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive Predictive value, Negative value calculated. Results: Out 155 cytology cases, 8 (5.16%) unsatisfactory/nondiagnostic, 133 (85.80%) Benign lesions, follicular neoplasm/ suspicious neoplasm, No reported as Atypia undetermined significance, 3 (1.93%) malignancy malignant. studied 19 cases. One case Anaplastic carcinoma referred higher center further management. Conclusions: plays pivotal role diagnosis Swellings. reporting effectively categorises into various sub groups facilitates better communication between pathologist clinician resulting proper management patient. In this study, number predominated occurred females. Cases presenting nodular malignant advised surgical resection evaluation. found useful categorisation advising medical or management, urgency treatment extent surgery.

Cytomorphological Study of Palpable Breast Lumps: Spectrum of Lesions and Diagnostic Utility of FNAC
Background: Palpable breast lumps are quite common which can be benign or malignant. Carcinoma breast is the second most common cancer after cervical cancer. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a minimally invasive, rapid, reliable and cost-effective outdoor procedure to provide effective diagnosis and way to further planning of treatment without need for biopsy. The objective of the stud...
متن کاملDiagnostic accuracy of Bethesda system for reporting thyroid cytopathology: an institutional perspective
INTRODUCTION Thyroid swelling is common problem among South Asian women. Although benign nodules far outnumber cancerous lesions, the risk of malignancy needs to be evaluated preoperatively for which fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is widely used. Bethesda system for reporting thyroid cytopathology (BSRTC) was introduced to streamline the reporting of thyroid aspirates. We aimed to evalu...
متن کاملThe Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology: a meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the validity of the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) through meta-analysis. STUDY DESIGN All publications between January 1, 2008 and September 1, 2011 that studied TBSRTC and had available histological follow-up data were retrieved. To calculate the sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy, the cases diagnosed as follicula...

categories in TBSRTC soon led to the successful introduction of a whole new era of ‘thyroid molecular cytopathology’, with novel tests further enhancing the accuracy of an FNA diagnosis [3, 4] . The success of TBSRTC is reflected in its widespread use by cytopathologists globally, the translation of the monograph into 4 other languages, a large amount of published scientific literature, and its...
متن کاملThe 2017 Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology.
The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) established a standardized, category-based reporting system for thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) specimens. The 2017 revision reaffirms that every thyroid FNA report should begin with one of six diagnostic categories, the names of which remain unchanged since they were first introduced: (i) nondiagnostic or unsatisfactory; (ii...
